Motorists plying the Mombasa-Malaba route are set to face a 30-day traffic disruption following heavy trucks that will commence the transportation of abnormal cargo.
In a notice published in local dailies, the transportation of the heavy load will commence on Tuesday, March 5, and conclude on Friday, April 5.
The affected routes include Mombasa - Nairobi - Nakuru - Eldoret - Malaba.
Road users travelling along these routes were advised to exercise extra caution when near the cargo.
"All road users on the affected routes are advised to exercise extra caution when in the vicinity of this abnormal cargo," the notice read in part.
The company indicated that the load being transported measures a maximum width of 3.5 metres and a maximum length of 30 metres.
Additionally, the trucks carrying the load will occupy a significant portion of the road while in transit.
Over the past four months, there have been instances of abnormal cargo transportation along Kenyan roads. Occasionally, items transported as abnormal cargo include heavy construction materials, military equipment, aircraft, boats, and other large items.
In February, Kenyans were in awe over the transportation of a large boat from Mombasa to Malaba.
The journey of the load which began on February 8, will end on March 31, 2024.
Further, a second load also captured the excitement of Kenyans as it was transported from Mombasa to Uganda.
According to the Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA), an abnormal cargo is viewed as one that exceeds the legal load limit or dimensional limit under the Road Traffic Act.
