EXPLAINED: How to Check Kenya Power Blackouts Week in Advance

Kenya Power, which trades under the KPLC ticker on the Nairobi Securities Exchange, has advised its customers to check for planned power blackouts a week in advance.

The power distributing company is known for its daily updates on social media platforms listing areas where the planned blackouts affect.

For instance on Sunday, the authority listed the whole of Tassia, Embakasi including Garrison as well as NACICO, Kenya Cold Storage and Gikomba Market.

Other affected arreas were in Kiambu County, Mombasa County, Homa Bay County and Machakos County.

How to Check

The utility firm advised its clients to visit its website, kplc.co.ke, homepage then toggle to the Customer Service Section.

Once on the page, choose the Planned Power Interruptions option which will redirect to a page showing the weekly advisories in a descending manner.

Then click the most recent posting to check the seven-day advisory.

The most recent advisory was released on March 14 and covers interruptions until Thursday, March 21. The advisories affect 11 counties including Nairobi and Machakos.

Others are Kilifi, Mombasa, Kiambu, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Embu, Homa Bay, Kakamega, and Uasin Gishu.

In Nairobi, Kenyatta University, Lavington and Westlands will lack power on Tuesday, March 19, while Kasarani and parts of General Mathenge Road will be affected on Thursday.

In the week of Thursday, March 7, to Wednesday, March 13, a total of 17 counties were affected including Nairobi and Machakos.

Others were Kajiado, Nakuru, Uasin Gishu, Elgeyo Marakwet, Siaya, Bungoma, Busia, Kisii, Homa Bay, Migori, Nyeri, Kiambu, Kilifi, Kwale, and Kitui.
