The county government of Kiambu has changed its USSD code numbers for payment of services within the county.

In an undated notice,  the residents were advised to take note of the changes and make payments accordingly moving forward. The change takes effect immediately.

The residents previously paid for various services including street parking, through the USSD code number *419#.

“The county government of Kiambu, under the leadership of Kimani wa Matangi, to enhance service delivery has changed the payment USSD code number from *419# to *476#,” the notice reads in part.

The county has also introduced a new pay bill number, 4162022 to make payments easier for the Kiambu fraternity.

Some of the main services paid for through the new numbers include quarry cess, market and slaughter fees.

Several County governments have moved to digitise payments within counties, by introducing new USSD codes and pay bill numbers.

In February, Nyamira County announced the end of cash payments for all services it will render to the public.

"Starting this Friday, February 9, 2024, all revenue services will be paid through the Safaricom line using USSD code *546#, Mpesa pay bill 004646,” the county stated.

“This move will enhance revenue collection, improve service delivery, seal loopholes and help achieve our revenue potential,” County Governor Amos Nyaribo stated.

Consequently, in efforts to reduce fraud and impersonation by county officials in Nairobi, governor Sakaja in January also announced the end of cash payments for all county services.

“I want to inform all Nairobians that, from now on, we will not be accepting any cash payments. If any member of my revenue team requests payment in cash, please report them to 0738 041 292, and we will take immediate action,” Sakaja noted

President William Ruto in 2023 introduced a new government pay bill, 222222, to ensure the National Treasury kept track of all services paid to the government. This is part of the government's plan to digitise all services through the eCitizen platform.
