Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) on Wednesday, April 10, arrested three gang members suspected of terrorising Nairobi residents.

According to a statement from the Directorate, one of the suspects was arrested in the Kilimani area in Nairobi.

“The operation followed thorough forensic analysis of evidence obtained from various armed robbery scenes across Nairobi and its environs, which were staged on diverse dates from 2023,” the statement read in part.

Upon his arrest, the suspect led the investigating officers to his home in Athi River where his two accomplices, a woman aged 34 and a man aged 38 were hiding.

Following a thorough search of the premises, several exhibits were recovered including a Czeska pistol loaded with 7 rounds of ammunition, and two pairs of motor vehicle number plates bearing registered KBB 0**Z and KDE 3**Q.

Other items taken in as evidence include assorted motor vehicle parts, several sim cards, mobile phones, two laptops, an iPad, logbooks for KCE 1**W and KCQ 3**A, wristwatches and ATM cards from various banks.

The officers further confiscated four vehicles at the resident’s parking lot for verification.

The suspects are currently detained at the Pangani Police Station where they are being processed for arraignment on Thursday, April 11, 2024.

In recent round-ups of gangs around the country, DCI officers on Tuesday arrested several suspects and recovered a pistol violently stolen from a police officer while on patrol in Vhiga, on December 2023.

The officers were forced to use force after one of the suspects opened fire daring the DCI to a gunfight. The suspect died on the spot.

Impounded during the raid was a vehicle used during the operations, and several other items suspected to have been stolen. They were taken in as evidence.

The body of the gunned-down suspect was transferred to the City Mortuary pending identification. Two of his accomplices are still on the run.
