Activist Shot Dead in Nairobi

A human rights activist and director of Githunguri Ranching Company was on Monday night shot dead at Zimmerman estate in Nairobi.

It is reported that gunmen accosted John Waweru, shooting him twice on the chest as he escorted one of his employees to her home.

Confirming the incident Nairobi Police Boss Japheth Koome said that nothing was stolen from the victim, assuring that investigations had been launched into the murder.

In January, Waweru came out to defend land owners in Thika aggrieved by land buying companies.

Waweru was also at the forefront of defending a Kenyatta University Student injured during a fracas at a church in Ruiru, after the student questioned the suspension of a pastor.

He took the student, Stephen Njogu, to hospital and urged the government to tame corrupt leaders in the church who were using their positions for material gain.
