Nairobi Gubernatorial aspirant Bishop Margaret Wanjiru has been arraigned in court and charged with malicious damage to property and creating disturbance.
Wanjiru, however, denied the charges with the prosecution requesting that she be detained until the Jubilee nominations are over.
The 'Woman of God' will remain in custody until 3 pm when Nairobi Chief Magistrate Francis Andayi will make a ruling on the matter.
The prosecution submitted that Wanjiru "unlawfully with others not before court damaged four ballot papers worth Sh30,000 at City Park Market Jubilee Party polling station".
Police officer Shadrack Mbila has urged the court to deny the bishop bail, arguing she is likely to influence the ongoing investigations.
“The accused person who is an influential member of the society is likely to interfere with potential witnesses who are yet to record statements,” Magistrate Andayi heard.
The former Starehe Member of Parliament (MP) spent the night at Parklands Police Station after she was apprehended for storming City Park polling centre and causing disruption.
She is said to have led about 50 rowdy men in storming the centre and destroying voting materials, claiming that there was a mix up in the ballot papers.
Wanjiru is contesting for the Jubilee ticket against Nairobi Senator Mike Sonko and former Gatanga MP Peter Kenneth.
