Bodaboda Operators Fight in Eldoret Town

Violent chaos erupted in Eldoret town, Uasin Gishu County - which is Deputy President William Ruto's backyard - following a clash between two groups of motorcycle operators.

The irate groups, which were heavily armed, attacked each other with stones and clubs bringing business in the town to a standstill.

The operators further pelted with stones vehicles caught up in the mayhem, injuring more than 10 people and destroying property.

Anti-riot police engaged the groups in running battles lobbing tear gas canisters in an attempt to separate them.

Commenting on the matter, Uasin Gishu County Commissioner Abdi Hassan said that investigations would be conducted to nab those behind the chaos.

“We have asked police to firmly deal with all those involved. Whoever is involved in inciting the youth will be arrested and charged,” he stated.

Tension is said to have begun a week ago after some operators were ferried from other parts of the county to work in town.

This was followed by the reported stabbing of two youth on Tuesday heightening tension in the area.
