Buzeki's Bundotich Kiprop Declines to Support Mandago in Race for Uasin Gishu Governor

One of the business associates of President Uhuru Kenyatta’s family has caused political trouble in Deputy President William Ruto’s home County of Uasin Gishu.

Bundotich Kiprop, popularly known as Buzeki, declined to step down in favour of Ruto’s ally and incumbent governor Jackson Mandago.

Kiprop is a prominent businessman who merged his Buzeki milk processing company with the Kenyatta family-owned Brookside Dairy where he is still a shareholder.

The businessman-turned-politician also strongly denied rumours that he was planning to pick a running mate from the Kikuyu community.

“I am working with all communities in Uasin Gishu but I will name my running mate from the Nandi community and give all other residents other opportunities after we win,” Buzeki stated.

Last week, close allies of the DP had visited Buzeki’s rural home and urged elders to have him step down in favour of Mandago.

Buzeki is from the Keiyo community in a county where the Nandi dominate.

Mandago and Buzeki are now expected to face off for the Jubilee ticket.
