Chaos Erupt During Election of Jubilee County Election Board Officials in Kirinyaga

Chaos erupted on Friday morning during a meeting to elect officials of the Jubilee County Election Board in Kirinyaga.

Trouble began after leaders participating in the event rejected the County Coordinator who they claimed had been imposed on them by the Jubilee Party.

Proceedings were halted as the delegates attending the meeting engaged in physical confrontations leading to a stoppage of the elections.

The warring groups descended on each other with chairs as they tore apart election material.

Security officers led by area OCPD were deployed to calm the situation as organisers of the event tried to regroup to proceed with the elections.

Speaking to the media, Kirinyaga Jubilee chairman John Mithamo blamed the chaos on those he said were not prepared for the upcoming April nominations.

On Thursday, a similar fracas was witnessed at the Bomas of Kenya after groups allied to Nairobi Senator Mike Sonko and fellow gubernatorial aspirant Peter Kenneth clashed.

The two factions are said to have differed over the composition of the election board which will oversee the party nominations.

The situation was not different in Nakuru after MP David Gikaria reportedly engaged in a fist-fight with supporters of his rival during similar elections earlier in the week.

Following the physical exchange, Gikaria is said to have sustained neck injuries.
