Charges Reduced For Man Who Killed Son Over Food

A man from Kaiyaba slums, Nairobi said to have killed his only son in 2012 will not be charged with murder.

This is after the office of the director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) made an application to have charges dropped from murder to manslaughter, following the man's confession to the crime.

The court, Wednesday heard that the suspect, Gerishon Mukuna Mugesia came home from the day's share of manual work on November 20, 2012 and sat, waiting for his wife to serve him food.

A little while later, his son came in demanding food and a fight ensued between the two.

Mugesia would stab his son in the chest, causing a fatal injury which the 22 year old son would succumb to.

He was later arrested and has been in custody since then.

While setting the mention date of the case for 29th June, sitting judge, Jessie Lessit said she will have to read the suspect's probation report before giving the sentence.
