A former bodyguard of Tiaty MP Asman Kamama is among five people being investigated for the murder of two ODM politicians who were brutally killed in Marigat town, Baringo County.
The suspects are being probed over the killing of Loyamorok MCA Frederick Kibet Cheretei and Tiaty Parliamentary aspirant Simon Pepee Kitambaa, who were shot dead at a local pub.
According to detectives, the suspect was an AP officer attached to Mr Kamama’s escort before he recently resigned and ventured into business.
The security officers who spoke to the Standard disclosed that the six were arrested last week between Wednesday and Sunday.
When County Police Commandant Peter Ndung’u, was contacted on Monday over the issue, he requested more time before he could divulge further details.
“I know the issue but please give me some time and I will get back to you. For now, kindly allow me not to say anything about it. I will call you for a briefing,” Mr Ndung'u was quoted.
The MCA and the Tiaty parliamentary aspirant were ambushed by unknown assailants and shot dead.
The goons went ahead and torched their vehicles before they disappeared.
Public outrage followed the incident, with locals blaming Mr Kamama who is also the chairman of the National Assembly Security Committee.
However, Kamama, who is an official in the Jubilee campaign team for the Rift Valley region, strongly denied having any links to the cold blood killings.
"I am above that. I cannot kill anyone. I believe in fighting at the ballot and not through assassination. The act could be political and police should step up their probe," he said.
