CEO Ezekiel Mutua to Hunt Witch Doctors

The Kenya Film Classification Board (KFCB) is now warning witch doctors, traditional healers and herbalists regarding advertising unlicensed material.

Speaking during a workshop with the police service on Wednesday, the Board's Chief Executive Officer Ezekiel Mutua said that legal action would be taken against the 'healers' and 'doctors' found circulating misleading and unlicensed messages on posters and billboards.

“We must ensure whatever information that gets to the public is sieved and classified by KFCB. Any witch doctor or herbalist found flouting our regulations will not be spared,” he said.

Mutua has over the last few days been blasted for what many termed as overstepping his mandate and turning himself into “a moral police” after banning billboards and broadcast advertisements with strong sexual, alcohol, gambling and violence appeal.

The board also ordered a blackout on advertisements that justify and glamourise homosexuality, promiscuity, juvenile delinquency, drug abuse and portray the acts as normal or mainstream lifestyles.

Additionally, he instructed that advertisements on condoms and those containing sexual innuendos and suggestive scenes should not be aired during the watershed period (between 5am and 10pm).

During the workshop, Mutua told off his critics and urged Kenyans to focus on safeguarding the country’s societal virtues.
