Former MPs Still On Payroll, EACC Reveals

The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission on Friday revealed that former Members of Parliament were still getting monthly payments.

In an audit report submitted to Speaker Justin Muturi, the Commission's CEO, Halakhe Waqo, also noted that some legislators, currently serving, received allowances yet they did not attend parliamentary sittings.

Speaking at Safari Park Hotel, Waqo also revealed that members of the Parliamentary Service Commission (PSC) fueled their cars using public funds.

The EACC boss proposed that the members be given fuel cards since some of them demanded money claiming to have traveled over the weekend, yet they did not.

He firmly promised to expose corrupt MPs, saying that investigation into Parliament malpractices was underway.

"We have launched a probe into the graft in Parliament and will name all individuals involved. We will not spare anybody engaged in this practice."

EACC presented a Parliamentary Service Commission audit to Speaker Muturi, a report which focused on financial management systems and functions of the PSC. The full details of the report are yet to be disclosed.

This comes amid heightened concerns over how Parliamentary Committees are plundering tax payers money through uncalled for fact finding trips.

The most recent being a trip to India, Netherlands and Ethiopia by members of the Catering Committee to benchmark on ways to improve food and services at Parliament's restaurant.
