Girl Gives Birth While Doing Exams

A candidate sitting for her Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) gave birth in Narok County on Thursday.

According to the County Education Officer Kuyo ole Saowina, the Masaai Girls' student was rushed to Narok County Hospital where she delivered safely.

“All is well as far as the examinations are concerned and there is no hitch. We only have a case of a girl who gave birth and had to sit her exams at the maternity,” said Ms Saowina.

A security officer and exam supervisor were sent to the hospital to ensure smooth flow of the exam as the girl recovered.

This was the second birth recorded in the county during the exam period as another student from Sogoo Secondary School got transferred to Kijabe Mission Hospital after her delivery process at a local hospital developed complications. It is however, uncertain whether she would continue sitting for the exam due to her condition.

The examination period has had several mishaps across the country such as the teachers strike and reports of massive exam leakage.

The Education Cabinet Secretary, Jacob Kaimenyi however, denied the reports dismissing them as unfounded allegations by the media.
