Government Bans Discos, Night Meetings in Uasin Gishu County Over Insecurity

The Government on Thursday announced that it had banned discos at funerals and night meetings in Uasin Gishu County due to increased security threats in the region.

The region happens to be where Deputy President William Ruto hails from as he comes from Sigoi in Turbo Constituency.

Confirming the ban, County Commissioner Abdi Hassan stated that some criminals had taken advantage of night activities to stage robberies and terrorise locals in the area.

The County Commissioner divulged that the move would help protect citizens especially during the festive period and arrest the gangs that were involved.

Mr Abdi directed police officers to stop issuing licenses for night meetings, discos and any kind of ceremonies at night adding that anyone who defied the order would be arrested.

The County Commissioners issued the directive days after all boda-boda operators were banned from operating beyond 11 pm in Eldoret town due to insecurity.

The Government has deployed more officers in the region to try and restore order and ensure security for the residents.

Residents from Uasin Gishu County, especially in Eldoret town, have been complaining of robbery incidents during the wee hours compelling the government to take action.
