Governor Oparanya Set to Make History After Signing Bill That Allows Kakamega to Have County Anthem

ODM Deputy Party Leader, who is also the Kakamega Governor, Wycliffe Oparanya, is set to make history after he signs a Bill that will make his county the first one to have an anthem.

The Kakamega County Flag, Emblems and Names (Amendment) Bill 2017, which was introduced by the governor’s officials, will enable the county to include the anthem in its instruments of power.

The proposed law further stipulates that the anthem will have an English and Kiswahili version.

While contributing to the debate on the Bill, Nominated MCA Dorcas Mulwale said the Assembly will be remembered by future generations for passing laws that uphold county heritage and culture.

The Bill has been passed on to Governor Oparanya for signing.

Once it becomes law, any person who shows disrespect in speech or writing to the county anthem shall be liable, upon conviction, to a fine not exceeding Sh10,000 or imprisonment for a term not exceeding six months or both.
