Joho Now Pleads with Nkaissery for Guns

Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho is now urging Interior and Coordination Cabinet Secretary Joseph Nkaissery to give him a fair hearing following orders to revoke his firearms.

Joho wrote to Nkaissery citing a number of accusations against Chief Licencing Officer Samuel Kimaru, over the manner in which his guns were invalidated.

Through his lawyers, Joho said that Kimaru did not consider that reasonable and legal basis for revoking firearm licenses existed in the law.

The Mombasa Governor also accused the officer of working in favour of the ruling coalition in the just concluded Malindi by-election.

“Mr Kimaru acted to appease and please members of the ruling Jubilee Party and subordinated his decision to the politics of the day,” Joho claimed.

Joho requested the CS to allow him time to make his case before his guns could be taken away.

On Saturday Nkaissery directed Governor Joho to follow orders to hand over his firearms, warning him against politicizing the whole issue.

Nkaissery further asked the governor to stop fighting the Government as he would never win but to instead follow the law of the land.

Last week, Joho's bodyguards were withdrawn from him before an order to surrender his three guns was issued.

The Mombasa leader cited malice in the turn of events and refused to hand in the weapons.
