A meeting meant to pray for Deputy President William Ruto and radio journalist Joshua Arap Sang, in connection to their cases at the International Criminal Court (ICC), turned chaotic in Ruiru after supporters of the Kiambu County bigwigs clashed.
Governor William Kabogo and Kabete MP Ferdinand Waititu's supporters engaged each other in a shouting match and for a moment derailed the agenda of the meeting.
The Kiambu politics took centre stage angering United Republican Party(URP) politicians who saw the chaos as a sign that their counterparts in The National Alliance Party (TNA) were not committed in the struggles to unhook Ruto from the ICC yoke.
"What has happened here today shows what we have been saying that TNA is not serious in its support of Ruto and Sang in regards to ICC is true. If TNA was serious we would not have witnessed what happened here today." said Governor Jackson Mandago of Uasin Gishu.
The Standard reports that some MPs from the Rift valley region stormed out of the Sunday meeting at Ruiru Stadium disappointed since they were not granted an opportunity to address the crowd.
MP Ferdinand Waititu and William Kabogo's rivalry is said to have began the moment Waititu declared his interest in the Kiambu governor seat come next elections.
The two enjoy massive following although Waititu is also backed by a number of legislators from the region who are opposed to Kabogo's leadership style.
However, their counterparts in the Jubillee government led by the host, Governor Kabogo, reiterated their unwavering support for the Deputy President.
"We want to tell our brothers from Rift Valley that as Central Kenya we support Ruto and have been supporting him since 2013 when he teamed up with President Uhuru Kenyatta. We shall continue supporting him until 2022 because we have an agreement that he should be President after Uhuru," he said.
Leaders affiliated to William Ruto have in several occasions criticised the government of not doing enough as they did for the President who's case was eventually dropped by the Hague-based court.
