Kabogo Excuse For Alleged Hate Speech

Kiambu Governor William Kabogo has denied propagating hate speech after a video of him speaking at a musician's ceremony in Thika emerged, showing him utter supposedly injurious remarks

Addressing the media on Monday at the Criminal Investigations Department, where he had gone to record a statement on the matter, Kabogo said that he did not refer to any community.

"I did not talk about any community because the body has no tribe. I will continue to urge those who haven't done it(gone through circumcision) to do so because HIV is dangerous, " he said amid applause from his supporters who had accompanied him.

Kabogo had gone for questioning following Director of Public Prosecutions, Keriako Tobiko's order, that instructed the National Cohesion and Integration Commission and the office of the Inspector General of Police, to carry out further investigations into the content of the video before he took action.

In the clip, the county boss attacked Opposition Leader Raila Odinga and Machakos Senator Johnson Muthama over their constant criticism of President Uhuru Kenyatta.

"You journalists should tell Raila to stop being a nuisance. And if they want to take people to court, I am ready to go, I have the money to defend myself," the Governor said.

Mr Kabogo also warned Muthama against insulting the President, saying that if he repeated, they would go for him at his mother's house. Kabogo added that he did not support violence but affirmed that he was not afraid of anyone.
