Kamiti Hardcore Inmates Organize Another Prison Break

Police at Kamiti Maximum prison on Sunday frustrated a jailbreak organized by two inmates who had successfully in July 2013, escaped from Shimo la Tewa prison.

Warders at the prison fired shots during the night incident to prevent the convicts from finding their way out.

Confirming the incident, Commissioner of prisons Isaiah Osugo said: "They have been cutting metal grills of their cells over days at Kamiti until Sunday night when they tried to get out. They had also mobilised other convicts but officers there thwarted the attempted break".

According to the correction facility's administration, the two convicts - identified as Cosmas Mogaka and Hassan Mangale - would be charged before being put in isolation.

"They seem determined to escape and that is why we have to put measures to contain them now," Osugo was quoted by the Standard.

The duo are serving life sentences after a robbery with violence charge.

After they broke out from Shimo la Tewa, Mogaka and Mangale were re-arrested and locked up at the Kamiti prison.
