Kenyan Political Parties Make Millions From Aspirant Nomination Disputes

Reports indicate that political parties have raked in millions of shillings out of the ongoing aspirant nomination disputes.

Aspirants filing petitions with the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) dispute tribunal have had to part with Sh75,000 each to have their grievances heard.

The ODM Appeals Tribunal Chair Willis Otieno reported having settled 30 disputes by yesterday bringing the sum made to Sh2.25 Million.

The Jubilee party Tribunal had 508 nomination cases to resolve where each complainant was required to pay a Sh1,000 filing fee in order to secure a hearing. This is excluding a fee for the dispute which is apparently not below Sh30,000.
