The Nairobi City beautification project, popularly referred to as 'Kidero Grass', has won the 2016 Architectural Association of Kenya (AAK) award.
The Uhuru Highway project by Governor Evans Kidero, which had been turned into a subject of online ridicule during its introduction, was named the best landscaping project in the category.
Kidero's programme beat the Machakos Peoples Park project which was ranked 1st runners up in the group.

Kenyans on Twitter went ahead to dub the project 'Kidero Grass' and asserted that it was impractical for Kidero to think that the grass would grow before Obama jetted into the country.
Other projects recognised during the award ceremony included: Kenya Commercial Bank's upcoming headquarters in Upper Hill (best commercial building project), Nairobi National Museum facelift (best renovation project), and Braeburn School premises in Garden Estate (best educational building project).
Naivasha's Enashipai Resort and Spa was feted as the (best hospitality project) while the Lamu Apartments won in the best residential buildings category.
The Architectural Association of Kenya in partnership with Basco Products Limited, held the awards on Thursday last week at the Intercontinental Hotel, Nairobi.
