Man Stabs Friend For Failing To Pay Football Bet

A night out for two friends turned tragic after one turned on the other, stabbing him for failing to pay up for losing a bet on a football match.

John Kiragu was arrested by police in Juja, Nairobi after allegedly stabbing his friend, Austin Mwendwa several times, leading to his death.

The two were watching a match on Sunday when they decided to place money on the team they thought would win.

Towards the end of the match, Mwendwa walked out, knowing his team had been defeated.

Kiragu was however, not ready to forgive his debt.

A scuffle is said to have ensued when Mwendwa refused to pay the dues

It is during the heated exchange that Kiragu removed a knife from his waist band, stabbing Mwendwa in the stomach several times.

Police were quickly notified. They searched the area for Kirangu who had escaped.

He was found hiding near a stream around the area and arrested.

Juja OCS Luke Odwuor, confirmed the incident.

This is not the firs incident in which someone has lost their life over a football match.

Last year, a young man jumped to his death after betting all his life savings and property on a team that lost a match.

Such cases show the gambling problems that some enthusiastic football fans have.

Reports indicate that some have ended up penniless after putting up their savings as bets on matches.
