Man Steals Sh270,000 from Police Station

A subordinate staff at Pangani Police Station in Nairobi has been jailed after stealing from a safe inside a senior officer's office.

Oliver Wanyama was sentenced to three years in prison after being found guilty of disappearing with Sh270,000 while cleaning the station.

Wanyama is said to have stolen the money from a cash safe inside the office of Officer Commanding the Station (OCS) on April 12.

The cleaner reportedly fled and went into hiding in Bungoma County after realising that he was being connected to the offence.

During the hearing of the case before Magistrate Daniel Ogembo, the prosecution told Milimani Law Courts that the suspect was trailed and found with the cash in his hide out.

The money, which was packed in bundles of Sh1,000 notes, was presented before the court as evidence after which Magistrate Ogembo ruled it be submitted back to the OCS.

However, it was not immediately established why the police station was holding such a huge amount of money within its premises.
