Most Wanted Poacher Killed in Fierce Shoot Out

Police in Laikipia County have reportedly killed one of the most wanted poachers in the area.

The wanted suspect was shot dead while three others managed to escape during a fierce shoot-out between game wardens and the criminals, the Standard reports.

According to KWS Assistant Director Aggrey Maumo the gun-fire exchange happened at Rumuruti forest in Laikipia-West yesterday morning.

Mr Maumo further claims that the three suspects on the run could have escaped with gunshot wounds.

The felled poacher is said to be behind a series of poaching incidents within the forest that has seen four elephants killed this year alone.

Police said gunshots were heard in the forest, Monday night, prompting an operation by police officers and game wardens.

The officers ventured into the forest, where they managed to trace and ambush the criminals.

A shoot out ensued, with one suspect being shot dead while the rest escaped.

Some of the items recovered include a Magnetic Accelerator Cannon of .458 caliber firearm popularly used for killing elephants and rhinos, an ax, a knife and heavy jackets.
