Nairobi Governor Kidero's Son Ronald Linked to Sh2.7 Billion NGO Scandal

Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero has found himself in unprecedented legal trouble after the EACC moved to court seeking to probe a foundation that carries his name but is under the management of his eldest son Ronald ‘Ron’ Odhiambo Kidero.

The Evans Kidero Foundation was started a few months to the 2013general election and is under the patronage of the Nairobi governor, and like most fathers would do, he trusted its finances to his son Ronald.

Unfortunately, Ronald and the other trustees have for the last three years failed to submit audited returns to the relevant regulatory authorities despite allegedly having over Sh2.7 Billion in their bank accounts.

The failure has prompted the EACC to move to court seeking investigations into the activities of the foundation while the NGO registration board has threatened to freeze the foundation's bank accounts.

A spot check by Kenyans.co.ke established that Ronald is an accomplished financial expert - raising doubts as to how he was unable to streamline his NGO’s financial compliance with KRA and other regulatory authorities.

His LinkedIn account reveals that the son of the powerful governor is a graduate in Business Administration (Finance option) from the prestigious Babson College in the US.

Ronald has also worked for top auditing firm Deloitte and is currently a senior financial analyst at East Africa Capital Partners.

Interestingly, it is not the first time that the Governor's son has brought political heat to his father.

In 2015, the younger Kidero caused political trouble after making a Social media post that was interrupted as an attack on ODM leader Raila Odinga – his father’s party leader.

Odinga had arrived late during the Labour Day celebrations held at Uhuru Park.

Ronald spoke his mind on the matter, much to the anger of CORD bloggers and supporters.

He later pulled down this post:

“The President didn’t mince words today. Those in power must be respected. Arriving late showed utter lack of respect and decorum. And for those hecklers, the President answered you: “Leo hii Gavana wa Nairobi ni Kidero.” Doesn’t get any clearer than that.”
