Nyali MP Hezron Awiti Decamps From Wiper

Nyali Member of Parliament Hezron Awiti and Wiper Democratic Movement party treasurer has officially quit the party.

The Nyali MP, who is seeking to dethrone Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho, cited fears that the party nominations would not be free and fair as his main reason behind the political move.

Awiti indicated that he would be free to negotiate a deal with either Jubilee or the National Super Alliance (NASA) ahead of the August polls.

Awiti had been embroiled in an unending tussle with the party Secretary General Hassan Omar, over who between them would fly Wiper's gubernatorial ticket as they both seek to unseat Joho.

The MP is also said to have held a series of meetings with his strategists over the weekend to weigh the pros and cons of his move.

“It was a marathon of meetings that even went up to 1 am,” a source privy to the matter revealed to a local daily.

Awiti also divulged to the strategists that he had spent a fortune in campaigns, which he said had started about three years ago.

The Nyali MP also held meetings with different communities, including the business fraternity, as he runs on the platform of inclusivity and unity of different communities in the county.
