Obama's Sister Blames Unemployment On The Poor Education Standards

Poor education standards in the country have contributed majorly to the 72 per cent of unemployment in Kenya.

Speaking in Kitui where she launched the Kyeni Foundation and Kitui County Family Planning Strategy, Dr Auma Obama complained that the public school system was the downfall of Kenyan children.

Auma said that those who were in-charge of the country's education system should be inclined to improve the standards of learning. She observed that the high standards that used to be enjoyed by Kenyans have deteriorated.

“It is a pity that employers who used to prefer Kenyans for their high standards of literacy are now going for Rwandans and other nationals. Universities must not lower cut off entries at a time when standards have fallen,” said Auma.

Ms.Auma urged Kenyans to re-evaluate their prorities in reference to the way the education system was handled .

“We are setting up our children at all stages to fail due to wrong priorities. We must move away from mass production of degrees with money as the benchmark,” she said.

Auma who is the Chief Executive Officer of Sauti Kuu and patron of StoryMoja Foundation, also added that parents were to blame for the poor reading culture because they did not read with their children.

Dr. Auma is the half sister to the President of the United States, Barack Obama. She became the talk of the town after receiving her brother at the airport when he visited the county in July.
