PHOTOS: County Official Roasted for Hiring Chopper to Open Bar

Machakos County Government Chief-of-Staff on Monday sparked an online buzz after it emerged that he hired a chopper to attend a fundraiser and bar opening event at Tawa area, in the neighbouring Makueni County, over the weekend.

Mwengi Mutuse, who was recently implicated in theft allegations, is said to have also been brandishing his gun during the event scaring attendants at the event.

The official however denied the allegations stating that he did not use a chopper to attend any event of the kind.

“It is true I attended an event in Tawa, Mbooni, on Saturday night but I did not use a chopper. I arrived at the event after 10pm, no chopper flies at night,” said Mr Mutuse while speaking to Nairobi News on phone.

He further clarified that he has used choppers severally to attend private functions but only because he asked for a lift from friends.

"As for the videos you have seen about me alighting from a chopper it can only be from a different event. For the record however, I have not used a chopper paid for by the county for any private function," he stated.

Some Kenyans on Twitter bashed Mutuse accusing him of plundering county funds.

The county official who is under a regular government payroll, is also reported to be owning a four-star hotel in Makindu called Hotel Paradise.

The revelations were unveiled after Human Rights Activists began a social media campaign under the name #KnockOutCorruption, aimed at getting officials in public offices to declare their wealth publicly, in an effort to weed out corrupt individuals.

Efforts by Kenyans.co.ke to contact the county offices for response on the matter were fruitless.

I am in the process of building a hotel in Machakos because I also want to be an investor in this great County as well as promote tourism.
