Police Allegedly Cover Up Another Accident, MP Involved

Police have been accused of altering evidence to cover up for a fatal accident involving an MP's car, where a motorcyclist was killed.

Borabu MP Ben Momanyi's landcruiser allegedly hit and killed Mr. Earnest Kipkemoi on dates given as either 31st July or 3rd August in Eldoret town.

The two police officers summoned at the scene of the accident were informed of the presence of the MP and three other people including the driver, Mr Victor Menya. However, only the driver recorded the statement.

Witnesses at the scene claimed the MP was in company of his bodyguard and a top former official of the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission.

According to the Eldoret traffic boss's report to the police headquarters, the vehicle was a KCA 330K.

Records from the registrar of motor vehicles confirmed the vehicle is registered jointly to the MP and the National Assembly.

Suspicion of the coverup arises from the dates of the reporting, where police claim the accident in the OB, reported on July 31, was different from the follow up report done on August 3.

It is alleged that the MP's car was being chased from behind by another car before knocking down a boda boda motorist, during the chase.

Witnesses at the scene are then said to have blocked the vehicle, and descended on the driver beating him up.

The MP, his bodyguard and the former EACC official flee the scene of the accident.

The MP is said to have headed straight to the Airport where he took a flight to Nairobi and later the same evening flew to USA.

The driver was taken to hospital where he was treated for three days and discharged.

He went to record a statement to police and claimed the accident happened on 3rd August and he was alone in the vehicle at the time of the accident- a date that placed the MP out of the accident scene as he was in the US.
