Police Officer Rehabilitates Addicts After Crackdown

An administration police officer from Naivasha, Nakuru county has moved to rehabilitate addicts suffering withdrawal symptoms after the national crackdown on illicit brews in the country.

Corporal Paul Macharia Konje has offered shelter as well as counseling services to over 50 youth from the area.

He says he was motivated to take up the course of action after youth from Karati area of Naivasha were hospitalized suffering serious withdrawal symptoms.

Speaking to Citizen News, Konje who is also a pastor at Victory World Outreach church, noted that most of the youth hooked to second generation alcohol do so out of desperation due to lack of jobs.

While commending the government for cracking the whip on illicit brews, he stressed the need for rehabilitating the people who were already addicted as well as offering more job opportunities.

The rare show of concern by the officer comes in the wake of a glaring need for rehabilitation services in the country, following the crackdown that left many addicts with no access to drinks they rely on.

So far, at least 6 people have succumbed to withdrawal symptoms, while score have been admitted in hospitals.
