Police Storm 'Project X' Event In Eldoret

Police in Eldoret on Saturday dispersed more than 1000 youths who had reportedly attended a social event linked to the outlawed Project X.

The event, which was to take place at Gulab Lochab Leisure Center in Eldoret, was stormed by armed police officers who stopped it and chased away hundreds of youths present.

However, the organisers denied links with the infamous Project X, which has caused jitters in many Kenyan households, stating that it was just a social event.

"The police denied us permits because they thought we are working with the Project X team but we wish to clarify that we do not even know the said Project X organizers," explained Siena Wangare, a Public Relations Officer at Colour Festival, who organised the event.

"Its sad that people had bought tickets and we can only apologize to them, our event Colour Festival is an international festival that originated from India and in Africa its only in Kenya and South Africa where people have fun playing with colour," Wangari added.

Many events have been interrupted after a group of unknown organizers highly publicised an upcoming party event dubbed Project X, through social media. The disputed event had been slated for Saturday, March 12 and was to take place in Nairobi's Kileleshwa estate.

The event is associated with excessive consumption of alcohol, abuse of drugs, engaging in illicit sex and violence.
