State House Denies Agreement With Raila

State House has denied claims that CORD leader Raila Odinga struck a deal with President Uhuru Kenyatta regarding the ongoing IEBC stalemate.

Reports indicated on Tuesday that both sides agreed to form a 10 member team, 5 from each side and negotiations were to start on Thursday on how to rebuild the electoral body.

Mr Odinga appeared to confirm those reports while addressing his supporters at Uhuru Park on Wednesday, where he announced that they would select 5 Members of Parliament that would lead talks on reconstituting the electoral body on Thursday.

However, State House spokesman Manoah Esipisu denied that such an agreement was reached and insisted that any talks must be done within the legal framework.

“No such agreement was struck, as it would have been inconsistent with President Kenyatta’s stand on the subject,” read the statement from State House.

It added that, "the Justice and Legal Affairs Committee of the National Assembly announced on Tuesday that it would invite Kenyans to make their views and recommendations on the IEBC and other electoral reform issues. President Kenyatta and Deputy President William Ruto intend to make their submissions to this team".

The Opposition leader warned Jubilee that his team would resume the anti-IEBC demonstrations on Monday if discussions would not have kicked off by Friday.
