VIDEO: 10 Year Old Hangs Himself Over Homework

A standard 5 pupil in Karatina, Nyeri county committed suicide by hanging himself after his mother told him to do his homework.

Andrew Kuria took his own life a day before schools reopened, at an avocado tree near their home.

His mother, Christine Wambui who is a single parent, had asked Kuria and his sister to finish up their school work, before opening of schools for the third term.

Kuria is said to have done part of his work, but once his mother left the house to do some chores, he took a rope from the house, headed to a nearby tree where he hanged himself.

His mother, trying to come to terms with what had happened, told K24 that they had been to church as a family earlier but Kuria seemed withdrawn.

One of the teachers at his school said that Kuria had made threats to end his life to his friends last term, prompting his mother to be summoned to the school.

Mathira West police boss David Kemboi, said investigations had began to determine what drove the boy to suicide.
