Video: Over 70 Arrested For Stepping On Kidero's Grass

71 people were arrested for stepping on the grass planted along the CBD area in Nairobi.

The residents caught had to answer for their mistake in court.

50 youth were recently hired by governor Evans Kidero to guard beautification projects in the city, among them the grass.

The youth have been on the lookout in town, for individuals going against sign posts put up to deter anyone from walking on the grass.

The grass, now popularly known as Kidero's Grass was planted as part of the beautification of the city, ahead of US president Barrack Obama's visit into the country last month.

The grass became the punchline of many jokes as Kenyans mocked the time line in which the grass was expected to grow.

The beautification of the city was also faulted by residents, many being of the opinion that it was done just because the Global Entrepreneurship summit was being held in town.

Contrary to the speculations, however, the county government said the beautification had been planned for and would continue after the president left.

Kidero had announced a Sh2,000 fine for pedestrians found stepping on grass and flower beds.
