William Ruto Scaring Away Jubilee Supporters - Amukowa Anangwe

Veteran Western Kenya politician Amukowa Anangwe, who is Jubilee's nominee for the Kakamega gubernatorial race has claimed that Deputy President William Ruto is doing the party more harm than good.

He warned that Ruto may eventually make the National Super Alliance (NASA) beat Jubilee in the coming elections.

According to Mr Anangwe, Ruto has been adopting a wrong strategy and being arrogant in his quest for votes in Western Kenya, a move that he says could scare away the residents from supporting Jubilee.

Each time the DP has made visits to the Western region, he has often been met with hostility, heckling crowds and Jubilee t-shirts burnt soon after the rally. Anangwe attributed this to the confrontational politics adopted by the DP.

Anangwe further faulted the DP for his "know-it-all attitude" instead of building trust and listening to genuine local concerns. This he says has seen Jubilee get rejected in the vote-rich region that could play a key role in determining who wins the upcoming elections.

“Ruto’s disdain for honest situational analysis of the political undercurrents of the Luhya nation, and his know-it-all mindset even when his understanding of pertinent Luhya issues is superficial and pathetic made the situation worse for Jubilee,” he said.

He accused the DP of engaging in impromptu Harambees, donating huge sums of money that ended up in the pockets of a few individuals instead of restoring the region's key economic assets and infrastructure.

“Failure by Jubilee to meaningfully implement pledges it belatedly made for public goodies, and restoration of the region’s key economic assets and infrastructure collapsed its attempts to change the negative perceptions by the locals about its leadership,” he said.

In the latest incident, NASA supporters in Mumias set Jubilee t-shirts and campaign materials on fire soon after the Deputy President had combed the region drumming up support for Jubilee.
