You Risk Being Raped in These Nairobi Areas - Report

A newly released report has revealed locations within Nairobi where most victims have fallen prey to rapists. 

The findings by Medicins San Frontieres (MSF) indicated in 2015 alone, that over 2000 victims were sexually abused in the Capital, with most of the incidents happening in Kayole and Kasarani areas.

Other regions where cases of sexual violence were rampant include: United States International University (USIU), Kenyatta University, Roysambu, Githurai, Kahawa West, Marurui and Santon.

In Nairobi's Eastlands region: Soweto, Komarock, Donholm, Umoja, Jacaranda and Saika came second in the report while Buruburu, Jericho, Harambee, Nyayo, Mbotela and Maringo recorded the least cases of sexual violence and abuse.

According to the findings, over 90 percent of the victims were female, with the actual cases reported being placed at 2,243.

On the other hand, incidents of men being raped were put at 7.7 percent representing 186 males.

Owing to the Increasing cases of gender and sexual violence within major slums, more than 50 women in Mukuru Kwa Njenga slum have formed the Mukuru Women Action Group to protect victims.

The women vowed to have the perpetrators of sexual violence reported and prosecuted by relevant authorities.
