Uhuru Gets Sh725 Million for 'Entertainment'

The office of President Uhuru Kenyatta has been allocated Sh725 Million for catering and hospitality expenses, in the Supplementary Budget unveiled by the National Treasury.

In the mini budget announced by the Parliamentary Budget Office, the Presidency was apportioned the colossal amount for hospitality functions despite an earlier regulation requiring state departments to cut down on the same expenses.

The proposal has further increased funding to the presidency by Sh1.2 Billion, covering Kenyatta and his Deputy William Ruto's operations.

Despite the huge allocations, the government has reduced unnecessary travel and hospitality expenditure in most of the Ministries following dismal revenue collection.

The estimates have also awarded Senators a total amount of Sh336 Million meant for monitoring and evaluating functions of the County Governments.

According to the newly revised budget presented to Parliament last week, Ruto was awarded an extra Sh100 Million for travelling after exhausting the Sh61 Million he had been given in the last financial year.
