Kenya's anti-terror police in conjunction with their Somalia counterparts on Friday morning arrested four suspected Al Shabaab operatives in Bula-Hawa planning an attack on Nairobi.
The four suspects were arrested with an already assembled IED along with a map of Nairobi's populated areas and had additional materials intended to assemble more bombs.
Following intelligence reports by the Somalia unit, police had been trailing the suspects through the Somali territory where they established that their operations were being undertaken in a hotel.
Three of the suspects were intercepted en-route when police recovered two Kenyan identification cards, a pair of handcuffs and what seemed to be medicine in their possession.
A sack was allegedly found in the hotel room where the four were conducting their activities with the inscription "From Mandera to Nairobi" indicating that they had intended to ferry the IEDs to Nairobi in coming weeks.
The owner of the hotel, as well as workers, have also been taken in for questioning on the matter.
The four suspects have been identified as Mohammed Ali Weythow, Hassan Adan Billie, Hassan Mohammed Jama and Ahmed Mohammed Muse.
The suspects will be arraigned in court to answer to terrorism charges.
Attempts to reach the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) intelligence unit for an update on the matter were unfruitful as calls went unanswered.
