Deputy County Commissioner Charged With Swindling Ksh20 Million

 Murang'a Deputy County Commissioner Kepha Marube has been charged with swindling more than Ksh20 Million from Siaya county.

Marube who is a former Siaya County Secretary was charged at the Kisumu Law Court alongside other four people with seven counts of corruption. 

The five are accused of having committed the crime during their tenure as Siaya County government officials where they facilitated payment of a ghost tender to Samco Traders Limited.

Among those arraigned in court is the former county secretary and head of procurement with charges of forgery, illegal procurement and abuse of office preferred.

The Murang'a Deputy County Commissioner worked as a Deputy County Commissioner in Siaya before he was transferred.

Those charged include the Chief Officer in charge of Governance, Amos Onyango, Internal Auditor Collins Owino, Head of Procurement, Zakayo Ojuok, Director of Supply Chain Tobias Oloo and Engineer Thomas Mboya.

Through their lawyers, the accused pleaded not guilty before Principal Magistrate Patrick Olengo and requested to be granted a reasonable personal bond. 

The court ordered that the five be released on cash bail of Ksh1million and a surety of Ksh2million each.

The mentioning of the case will be on May 2, 2018, with the hearing set to start on June 8, 2018.

In 2015, Marube was mentioned in the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) list of shame although he never stepped down.
