NTV Journalist Laban Cliff Onserio Joins Presidential Delivery Unit

NTV business reporter and news anchor Laban Cliff Onserio quit his job on Friday ahead of a new job within President Uhuru Kenyatta’s team.

The seasoned journalist will join the Presidential Delivery Unit that is headed by Chief of Staff Nzioka Waita.

Onserio thanked his colleagues for the support they gave him during his five years at the media house.

Speaking to Kenyans.co.ke he is set to begin work on October 1 as the Deputy Director of Communications at the PDU and will be charged with sharing information regarding the Big 4 Agenda.

According to sources, chances are that the Director, who is yet to be appointed, will come from the media circle.

The decision sparked questions of whether the move was instigated by the fact that Onserio was Mr Waita’s co-driver in a recent event.

“Yes I was his co-driver but it had nothing to do with the job. I believe I’m competent and well able.” remarked Onserio.

The journalist could not contain his excitement terming it as a new step in his career.

“I’m excited to join PDU at a time when the Big 4 priority plan is a buzz word. There is a rich story to tell on this growth renaissance,” stated Onserio.

The adrenaline junkie journalist launched his career in motor sport this year as a rally driver. He went to further express how the year has been full of fortunes and the new job tops it all.

This is the second time the journalist has quit his job for a better one.

In 2013, Onserio quit his HR position at General Electric to join media.

Onserio explained that he quit the job because it did not give him the ability to grow his talent.

The soon to be married journalist started his career in London where he worked for the Consumer and Business Channel (CNBC).

He quickly made an impression when he held the second best position in the Diaego African Business Reporting Awards.

While in the UK, he received a call from Bloomberg South Africa but before he responded to the request, he received another offer from Nation Media Group.

He accepted the job at NTV after considering the offer the media house tabled.

Onserio's exit is a major blow to the media house that has experienced a series of exits of high profile journalists this year including Larry Madowo, Nimrod Taabu and Jamila Mohammed.

The rally driver becomes the second media personality to join the State House team after the appointment of Kanze Dena as the acting Spokesperson.
