Otiende Amollo MP Explains Why Boys Tried to Embarrass Raila in Muhoroni

Rarieda MP Otiende Amollo, on Tuesday, explained why some boys tried to embarrass Raila Odinga as they heckled him during his address in Muhoroni.

Speaking during a panel discussion on NTV Live, the ODM legislator argued that the media depiction that the residents heckled Raila was false citing underlying issues.

"The incident took place in a place called Chiga in Muhoroni where a section - actually it was just five to seven boys came to the meeting and tried to heckle," he explained.

Otiende who was present at the event, stated that the boys had placards which they tried to interrupt Raila's speech with but the residents roughed them up and evicted them.

"Their protest angered the residents who were happy with the project Raila was launching and they kicked the boys out of the meeting," he divulged.

The MP added that the group did not have an issue with Raila rather with the county government over land grabbing claims.

"They protested that the land, 500-acres, which would be set aside for economic use, was their ancestral land that had been reverted to the defunct Kisumu Municipal Council after they were moved due to constant flooding.

"They want historical compensation for the land," he stated.

Earleir reports indicated that during the commotion, Raila tried to defuse the situation by emphasising the importance of the special economic zone.

"Why are you embarrassing me? I am bringing development yet you are not keen on the projects that will benefit you," he pleaded with the residents.

"There is no need of SGR bringing goods to Kisumu from Mombasa then going back empty-handed. We must ensure through economic zones that whenever they bring goods they go back with it to enhance trade," he added.
