NTSA Warns Motorists on New Vehicle Registration Fraud

NTSA Kenya on Wednesday raised an alarm over what they described as third party agents out to con unsuspecting Kenyans during the vehicle registration process.

The public notice published on their official social media pages denounced the existence of any firms or individuals sub-contracted by the government agency to carry out any services on their behalf.

"We hereby caution the general public that NTSA has not contracted any third party/agent to carry out our services," an excerpt of the notice disclosed.

The transport authority went on to caution citizens against sharing their Transport Integrated Management System (TIMS) information with anyone.

"All codes and passwords for your TIMS account are sent to your mobile number. Such information should not be shared or disclosed to anyone," NTSA posted.

NTSA had issued a similar notice last year after fraudsters started sending out messages pretending to be agents mandated by the transport and safety authority to collect vehicle registration fees on their behalf.

“Congratulations ABCD. Your motorcycle shall be delivered to XXX town today before 5 pm. You are required to pay a logbook transfer duty payment of Sh3,200 right now to or NTSA agent who is at NTSA Headquarters Nairobi so that he can process your logbook,”  the fraudulent message disclosed.

The government body in charge of transport affirmed that all transfer, ownership and processing of logbooks and other relevant documents were strictly undertaken through TIMS.

Any individual who fell victim to the conmen following the notice was advised to seek personal remedy as NTSA declared that it would not be liable for any losses incurred.
