Renowned teacher Peter Tabichi's students have followed in his footsteps by winning a competition in the US.
Esther Amimo Anyanzwa and Salome Njeri, both from Keriko Mixed Day Secondary School, Nakuru County, bagged the UN Sustainable Development Goal Award at the International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF) on Thursday night in Phoenix Arizona.
Esther and Salome will both share the prize money of Ksh 200,000.
They had partnered to create an innovation that they submitted at the final stage of the competition.
The girls created a noble device to help the visually impaired and deaf learners do mathematics.
Tabichi had wished his students all the best as they travelled to face off with other equally talented students from all over the world.
“Proud of my students Esther and Salome for being selected among the 10 finalists who are representing Kenya in the Intel ISEF being held in Phoenix (USA) this week.
"Such participation boosts innovations as well as improve performance of STEM subjects. Wishing them all the best,” Tabichi wrote on his Twitter handle.
The competition brought nearly 2,000 student scientists from more than 80 countries, regions, and territories, together under one roof.
Growing up, the two girls reportedly walked a distance of up to 7Km to school on a daily basis, but worked hard and managed to overcome the challenges to represent the institution and the country in one of the largest science fairs in the world.
