Outspoken Central Organisation of Trade Union (COTU) Francis Atwoli was surprised with a birthday cake while in his Nakuru office by his colleagues and wife, KTN Anchor Mary Kilobi Atwoli as he marked his 70th birthday.
Among those who surprised him were the staff of Kenya Plantation and Agricultural Women Workers (KPAWU).
His wife Mary also took to Instagram to share her joy with Atwoli as she shared a picture of the two of them sharing a cake.
“May the Almighty God continue to bless you, keep you strong, healthy and happy. May He watch over you for us! Unapendwa ajabu (You are loved so much). Happy birthday Mr. Amazing!” Kilobi’s text read, accompanied by love emojis.
COTU Kenya also took to Twitter to celebrate their leader.
“We wish COTU (K) Secretary-General Dr. Francis Atwoli a happy birthday. We celebrate you,” read COTU’s statement.
“The Executive Board of COTU (K), our affiliates and all our members and the entire Labour fraternity wishes our Secretary-General Dr. Francis Atwoli a happy birthday. We celebrate you,” another separate quote read.
Atwoli has served as COTU leader since he was first elected in 2001.
He is a vocal critic of politicians on issues such as their refusal to pay taxes on their allowances.
