Ken Okoth's Family Speaks Out After His Death

On Friday, Kibra MP Ken Okoth's family informed the nation of the legislator's death.

The family spoke outside The Nairobi Hospital, where he had been hospitalised urging Kenyans to give them some privacy and enough time to mourn.

Speaking through Imran Okoth, Kibra Constituency manager, the family noted that the body would be moved to Lee Funeral Home.

"The family requests privacy during this trying moment. The body will be transferred to Lee Funeral Home.

"However, there won't be any viewing of the body," Imran stated.

The spokesperson went on to urge members of the public and Kibra residents to be calm sending a personal message to family members.

"I urge all relatives not to make any arrangements. We shall inform them of the decisions we make in the course of the day.

According to the spokesperson, the former MP wasn't in a position to utter any word, before he died.

After he went public about his illness earlier in the year, Okoth travelled to France to seek further treatment.

During his stay in Paris, he would often engage with Kenyans online to keep them abreast of his progress.

Appearing in a past interview, Okoth told a local newspaper how he had been on treatment for ulcers and bacterial infections for about a year, not knowing he had cancer.

Doctors had also prescribed for him pills to manage stress and anxiety.

It was only when he sought a second opinion that he discovered that he had colorectal cancer.

The disease develops from both the colon and rectum and is regarded as the second and third leading cause of cancer deaths.

He returned to the country early this month to a rousing welcome from Kenyans who had rallied behind him, lauding him for his bravery in fighting cancer.
