The government on Thursday, March 26, announced the first Covid-19-related death in Kenya.
The victim was a 66-year-old Kenyan citizen who had traveled from South Africa via eSwatini.
According to a statement seen by Kenyans.co.ke, the man suffered from Diabetes and had arrived in the country on Friday, March 13.
He passed on during the afternoon while admitted at the Aga Khan Hospital's Intensive Care Unit (ICU).
"We received the sad news of the death of a patient who had tested positive for the Coronavirus.
"My condolences to the family," the statement signed by Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe read in part.
Previous advisories from bodies including the World Health Organization (WHO) have revealed that individuals over the age of sixty and those with underlying health issues including Diabetes, Cancer, heart and respiratory diseases remain most vulnerable to Covid-19.
The government had earlier announced the confirmation of three new confirmed cases in the country that brought the total number of confirmed cases to 31.
At a press briefing held outside Afya House in Nairobi, Health CAS Mercy Mwangangi confirmed that the new cases were all Kenyan females aged between 30-61.
Two of the new cases were from Kilifi County with the other from Nairobi County.
"We have traced 1,029 close contacts of confirmed Covid-19 cases. 123 out of these have been discharged after a 14-day follow up period.
"Eighteen individuals are currently admitted at Mbagathi Hospital awaiting tests. We are in the process of consulting on how to handle Kilifi County and other emerging hotspots," she disclosed.
She urged Kenyans to adhere to all the measures and directives set out by the government to ensure the deadly virus was contained.
