Migori Governor Okoth Obado has been accused of working in cahoots with reporters to thwart his impending impeachment

ODM Leader Raila Odinga's spokesperson Dennis Onyango has called the Directorate of Criminal Investigations to investigate Migori County Government officials to establish a paper trail between them and local journalists.

"On the pending impeachment motion in Migori, the DCI may need to conduct money trail between Migori County officials and unofficial networks and reporters and radio commentators in vernacular radio stations and even national newspapers," he posted on Twitter.

He accused reporters of taking money to sway public opinion against his impeachment which has been supported by ODM.

"There's too much money going around in Migori. The mainstream media has been compromised by the corrupt Obado and his hirelings," Bob Odhiambo supported.

The looming impeachment has also turned Migori MCAs against one another with some accusing ODM Party of being biased against the governor.

Obado's supporters gave examples of instances where ODM governors were accused of corruption but were given the benefit of doubt.

Of all the ODM governors who have been accused of corruption and faced impeachment, among them Sospeter Ojaamong' of Busia, Wilberforce Ottichilo of Vihiga and Wycliffe Wangamati of Bungoma, ODM has only pushed for the removal of Obado. This has left many Kenyans wondering why the party zeroed in on the Migori governor.

"They cannot remove the governor based on rumours, based on political alignments," one of the MCAs declared.

Tension is high in the county after reports that the impeachment process could turn chaotic.

Migori County Assembly Speaker Boaz Okoth on Saturday, September 5, alleged that goons from the ODM party had attacked him while in a hotel room.

Speaking to the press, the county speaker stated that his life was in danger following the encounter.

"I was attacked yesterday and in the presence of ODM Secretary General Edwin Sifuna and whoever was attacking my bodyguard is his brother.

“I am not sure why they attacked me. I think they thought I was with some MCAs at the hotel. My life is in danger," he stated.
