The family of Lands Cabinet Secretary Farida Karoney is mourning the death of her father on Tuesday afternoon, October 13.
State House confirmed that Mzee Edward Kiprotich Karoney passed away in a road accident involving a motorcycle.
He was knocked dead while crossing a road in Kapsabet town while crossing the busy Kapsabet- Eldoret highway.
He died at the age of 74 years.
"President Uhuru Kenyatta has sent a message of comfort to the family of Mzee Edward Kiprotich Karoney who passed away in a road accident this evening. Mzee Karoney, 74, was Lands Cabinet Secretary Farida Karoney's father," stated State House in a statement.
The deceased was knocked down after parking his vehicle in a shade.
Kiprotich, who was a prominent tea farmer in Nandi, was on his way to an appointment when the incident happened.
The region's police commander confirmed that investigations into the matter had been launched.
Karoney was appointed by Uhuru to head the Lands Ministry in 2018 to replace the then CS Jacob Kaimenyi.
Before her appointment to the position, Karoney served as Royal Media Chief Operating Officer.
She previously served as the Group Editorial Director of the same media house. She had also worked in managerial positions at the Nation Media Group and Standard Group Limited.
