Nominated senator Millicent Omanga spoke out on Monday evening, February 1, following a scuffle that ensued during the burial of Kisii Deputy Governor Joash Maangi's father, Abel Gongera.

Omanga had been mishandled after she attempted to snatch Governor James Ongwae's microphone. The senator pronounced that she had not been given an opportunity to address the mourners.

Issuing a statement on her Twitter page, Omanga stated that she would not allow anyone to push her around.

"Bora wamejua (Now they know) I'm not a pushover (sic)," she stated.

Nairobi Woman Representative Esther Passaris has since come to the senator's defense.

"I am deeply appalled and would like to condemn in the strongest terms possible the manner in which senator Omanga was manhandled in Kisii.

"No matter which side of the political divide we're on, women's bodies must be respected at all times," she stated.

During the same ceremony, Dagoretti North MP Simba Arati and South Mugirango MP Sylvanus Osoro briefly exchanged blows after the former allegedly made disparaging statements against Deputy President William Ruto.

In a video that widely circulated online, Osoro was seen crashing to the ground as mourners surrounded him and Arati after he attempted to snatch a microphone from the Dagoretti legislator.

Police were forced to intervene during the commotion in an attempt to calm the mourners down.
